Value Chain and Business Development Specialist

ActionAid Zimbabwe is working with a consortium of NGOs and private partners (COSV, Mercy Corps, Braford Investments, Shamiso Farms, Zvikomborero Farms and Michview Entreprise) to support the Zimbabwe Agricultural Growth Programme in the area of Goat and Pig value chain transformation. Staff recruited to this programme will be based in Harare and will implement activities throughout Zimbabwe.

The post holder will be responsible for designing, developing and implementing growth strategies for the Pig Value Chain under the ZAGP program. Applicants should be team players who understand how to identify new market opportunities and what it takes to lead a team (colleagues and community stakeholders) forward and realize those opportunities.

Requirements

Degree in Agriculture (preferably majoring in Livestock), Agriculture economics, Agribusiness, Animal Science, agricultural marketing and/or value chain development. Masters’ degree will be an added advantage; Minimum of five (5) years’ experience within Livelihood projects, particularly in establishing market linkages.

Key Competencies

Ability to prioritise competing priorities, work well under pressure and meet deadlines; Ability to effectively communicate with and coordinate activities with multiple partners including field-based community stakeholders; Excellent technical skills in writing, editing, formatting, research and verbal skills in negotiating; Willingness to travel locally sometimes with little notice; Ability to carry out market research, identify new opportunities and establish strategies for pursuing those new opportunities; Ability to develop pitch for potential investors along the value chain; Ability to participate in negotiation between project beneficiaries and private sector market /suppliers; Ability to train and mentor beneficiaries on Business Development Entrepreneur skills.
