Tongaat Hulett
Tongaat Hulett is an agricultural and agri-processing business which includes integrated components of land management and property development. Through its Sugar and Starch operations, Tongaat Hulett produces a range of refined carbohydrate products from sugarcane and maize. Renewable energy (in the form of biofuel and electricity generation), animal nutrition and cattle production are of increasing importance to the business. The current focus prioritizes the business leveraging its asset base in six SADC countries. Tongaat Hulett is well placed to capitalize on the company’s access to premium regional sugar markets, its independent position, established business platform and size. Tongaat Hulett employs approximately 38 000 people, and has operations in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Swaziland, South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia. Tongaat Hulett operations in Zimbabwe employ approximately 12 000 permanent plus and an additional 5 300 short term contract employees during peak season. The Company’s Hu sugar milling operations in Zimbabwe consist of two sugar mills situated at Hippo Valley Estates and Triangle with a combined installed capacity of 640 000 tons of raw sugar, a refinery able to produce up to 140 000 tonnes of white sugar per annum, a fuel ethanol plant with current capacity of 41 m litres and an animal feeds factory with capacity to produce 42 000 tonnes. In addition, the Company has consistently been acknowledged as one of the leading cattle producers in the country with a current herd of around 6 000.
Human Resources Executive Manager
Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe is offering a challenging and unique career opportunity to a highly talented, self-driven and results oriented individual with a successful track record of accomplishment to support the business by assisting in the development of the HR strategy in line with the company’s strategy and business plan, interpretation and implementation of the HR plan, management and coordination of human resources operations, employee relations, policies, employee community development and employee wellness programs and coordinate the learning and development initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Human Resources Director, the Human Resources Executive Manager will provide leadership and guidance in the following HR disciplines:
Industrial Relations Support:
- Develops interventions to enhance employee satisfaction and engagement.
- Manages the industrial relations risk throughout the organization by leveraging on the line managers to drive harmonious industrial relations by training and providing advice to line managers to take accountability for all industrial relations issues.
- Manages industrial relations in the company and assumes responsibility for maintaining discipline and managing employees’ grievances.
- Takes custodianship of the Company code of conduct as well as its development, review and application.
- Coordinates the activities workers’ committees and works councils with the objective of building and maintaining a harmonious work environment.
- Formulates Industrial Relations programmes for the company such as industrial relations training and awareness for executives, managers and employees based on identified needs.
- Participates in industry associations and the National Employment Council to Re champion and protect the company’s goals and objectives.
Human Resources Administration:
- Provides direction, oversight and interpretation of HR-related policies and co procedures that guide day-to-day operations of the organization.
- Aligns existing human resources policies to prevailing legislation.
- Manages the provisioning and updating of job descriptions, roles and responsibilities. Develops, manages and maintains the recruitment value chain from entry to exit.
- Coordinates human resources budget preparation and expenditure reviews for cost effectiveness.
- Ensures adequacy and security of both electronic and manual employment and or staff files.
- Participates in various internal management committees such as job grading and Safety, Health and Environment and Sustainability (SHES) committees
- Manages the divisional SHES initiatives for Human Resources.
Community Development and Employee Wellness.
- Assists in the development, implementation and monitoring of plans and interventions to deliver a world class employee wellness program.
- Develops strategy and objectives on employee housing, domestic energy, sports and recreation.
- Manages the community services portfolio with respect to employee housing, sporting and welfare services.
- Represents the company in the local authority boards (Chiredzi Rural District Councii/Chiredzi Town Council).
- Manages company schools to ensure enhancement of a learning culture and improvement of all round pupil student development.
- Manages internal SED through schools, sports and recreational clubs.
Human Capital Learning and Development.
- Identifies or develops company-wide or individual learning initiatives that cost effectively focus employee development toward achievement of both business and personal career goals.
- Provides coaching and support to key leaders in the creation of robust development plans that meet succession and development needs.
- Coordinates manpower development initiatives for the company such as provisioning of learnerships and apprenticeships,
Requirements:
- The successful incumbent shall be a key member of the Company’s senior management team and in this regard shall possess the necessary experience, leadership traits and competencies commensurate with the seniority and complexity of this role.
- A relevant tertiary. Qualification with a strong focus on Human Resources Management.
- A Master’s degree in a related field or an MBA/MBL will be a distinct advantage.
- At least 10 years progressive and relevant experience in leading talent at all levels, managing complex projects and optimizing resources in well-established business environments.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills with demonstrable capacity to build ‘effective teams, lead change and collaborate across functional boundaries
- High level strategic thinker able to create the culture, structures, and environments that enable individuals and teams to thrive and deliver results beyond set targets.
- Innovative, agile, and adaptable with the ability to create opportunities and space for new thinking, invest in new ideas, discern evolving risks, and exploit emerging opportunities.
- High levels of computer literacy on spread-sheets and SAP.
- Ability to write concise reports.
