The Jokomo/Yamada Library seeks to support Africa University’s teaching, learning and research programmes by acquiring and organising information resources in a variety of formats and equipping the University community with the skills necessary to exploit these resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Regular monitoring of the Library by moving around and checking for order (furniture, shelves, floors etc) and security.
- Compiling Library shift reports, incidents reports, statistics etc. and submit to the Client Services Librarian the next morning.
- Ensuring that Library rules & regulations are adhered to by all Library clients.
- Clearing and closing the Library at the end of the shift by: – Ringing the closing time alarm bells. – Ensuring that all clients have vacated the premises (library). – Ensuring that water tapes are closed. – Ensuring that computers and lights have been switched off. – Locking up all the exits and entrances doors of the Library at the end of the shift and activate the alarm.
- Successful applicants must be prepared to work in the evening and will have the opportunity to explore various information resources in diverse formats, including exposure to library community engagement services.
Requirements
- Be resident on AU campus and enrolled in relevant University degree programmes
- Be studying towards either a Master’s or Doctoral degree
- Good academic standing and competitive GPA and CGPA
- Be honest, energetic and committed to working as a team
- Have excellent communication skills (oral & written).
- Be able to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Be able to interact and work comfortably in an international, multicultural team environment.
