Please note that the duties and responsibilities of an Executive Dean of Research and Postgraduate Studies are grouped into 4 main categories which are:

(a) Research – the incumbent is expected to engage in active research in his/her area of specialization which benefits both the students and the University
(b) University Service – the incumbent should participate in all Department, Faculty and University activities such as attending meetings, training workshops, conferences and seminars, among others.
(c) Innovation –leading to tangible products and services
(d) Industrialisation- through commercialization of products.

QUALIFICATIONS

• PhD Qualification is a must
• Experience in Research Administration and handling of postgraduate students

Purpose of the Job

• The Executive Dean of Research and Postgraduate Studies will report to the Vice Chancellor. He/she will be the first point of contact for all stakeholders interested in conducting or sponsoring research and development in the University. The incumbent will be recognized as a leader in encouraging and stimulating research, development, consultancy and technology transfer in the University.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Among other issues, the Executive Dean of Research and Postgraduate Studies will be expected to:
• Encourage, promote, develop, coordinate and facilitate quality research in the University.
• Promote a research culture within the University leading to technology transfer and development of patents and improve ranking of the University.
• Capacitate academic staff with research skills so as to attract research grants.
• Provide assistance and mentorship to researchers through strategic planning, training, quality management of research activities and outputs.
• Assist in project initiation, planning, reporting and commercialisation of research outputs.
• Work with faculties, departments, schools, centres, associated institutes, affiliated institutes, as well as with Government and Non-Governmental organizations to facilitate and coordinate quality research.

• Mobilise financial, technical and human resources for deployment into research programmes and projects.
• Develop policies, plans and strategies that will strengthen and enhance the capacity and capability of the University and its associated and affiliated institutions to conduct high quality research that is responsive to the needs of the country and the region.
• The Executive Dean of Research and Postgraduate Studies will be a key person in the University administration, playing a major role in advising the Vice Chancellor on all issues related to research.
