Heavy-Duty Tractor Technicians specialize in repairing, maintaining, and diagnosing complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems in tractors and large agricultural and heavy earthmoving machinery. This role requires technical certification, proficiency with electronic diagnostic software, and involves working on site at farms, construction, mining and main workshops.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform engine overhauls, hydraulic system diagnostics, transmission repairs, and in-depth electrical troubleshooting.
- Utilize laptop-based diagnostic software (EST) to identify and resolve issues in modern, technologically advanced agricultural tractors, implements, harvesters and construction equipment.
- Diagnose and repair advanced systems including auto-guidance systems on tractors, self-propelled sprayers, and combine harvesters.
- Execute power transmission diagnosis, calibrations, and overhauls.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance services (e.g., 50-hour services), including changing fluids, filters, and checking structural integrity as well as performing inspections to the machines during warranty period.
- Conduct field work, traveling to job sites to repair broken-down equipment in the field as required.
Requirements
- Education: Certificate programs or associate degrees in diesel mechanics or heavy equipment technology
- Apprenticeship: Complete 4-year Apprenticeship. Trade tested Diesel Plant Fitted Class One.
- Certification: Specialised training certification, e.g., Hydraulics, Electronics, Engines, etc. A clean driving license.
- Knowledge of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) systems is an advantage.
- Experince in agricultural sector is an added advantage
