TECHNICIAN – ACCESS NETWORK OPTIMIZATION

Job Purpose

The incumbent will be responsible for troubleshooting, tuning and optimisation of the Access Network i.e. WiFi, GERAN, UTRAN and EUTRAN to ensure optimal capacity, coverage and customer (Banks, Vehicle Tracking, M2M device operators and legacy mobile cell users). Quality of experience is in line with international standards and best practice through field measurements, crowd sourcing and air interface data analysis.

Qualifications and Experience

• 6 “O” Levels Including Mathematics, Science and English
• 2 A Level passes
• Degree in Telecommunications or equivalent.
• 2 to 4 year’s experience in a similar or related environment.

Key Result Areas

1. SERVICES & SYSTEMS ACCESS OPTIMISATION

• Analyses drive tests logfiles and other services and systems tests of the entire GERAN, UTRAN, LTE, Wi-Fi, USSD and other products like wearables, IoT, Vehicle Tracking, Intruder Alarms, mobile money, POS machines and M2M devices.
• Checks and analyses all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for networks, services and systems for verification and optimization and recommends necessary actions to the Team Leader.
• Collects statistics, aggregates, analyses, visualize, and monitors services and systems performance data in order to keep networks, services and systems performing above board as per POTRAZ targets
• SON feature impact analysis, feature testing and feature validation to improve network performance and help increase operational efficiencywork with Planning team to determine and agree how SON is integrated in the network, problem definition for parameter/process automation, test plan creation/execution, and KPI analysis
• IoT and Lte device validation
• Receives and analyses performance reports and takes necessary action in consultation with the Team Leader
• Recommends basic RF changes on radio sites (azimuth, mechanical tilts etc) to address coverage, capacity and quality issues.

2. SERVICES & SYSTEMS ACCESS PERFORMANCE

• Retrieves site audit data from SON or other systems to use as inputs in the optimisation works in consultation with the Team Leader
• Collection and analysis of traffic statistics data and recommending actions to effectively reduce congestion, interference and dropped calls. These reports are then used as input to planning for creation of coverage and capacity solutions.
• Provides inputs to the team leader for Services and Systems Radio network (GERAN, UTRAN, EUTRAN, WiFi, etc) coverage and capacity plans.
• Participates in acceptance tests for RAN nodes, services and systems e.g. VoLte, VoWI-Fi etc
• Receives, verifies and analyses customer complaint challenges and insights using analysis tools like astellia, running traces for troubleshooting/analysis from drive test log files. Recommend solutions and apply or issue work orders and request the issue of TTs or write a motivation paper to resolve the same
• Forecasts, Calls for and recommends for appropriate configurations and actions for the provision of Coverage, capacity and quality RAN, Services and Systems infrastructure/ equipment needs to cover revenue potential gatherings like expos, trade fairs, conferences, sports, meetings etc, monitor performance and provide support during the same
• Ensures that services and systems infrastructure and transmission links remain operational to avoid revenue loss through proactively identifying, investigating and recommending for resolution on technical incidents and problems picked up by SON or Cummi Technites Drive test results, and to restore services to clients by recommending solutions of the same.

3. SERVICES & SYSTEMS ACCESS OPTMISATION REPORTING AND RECORDS MANAGEMENT

• Provides inputs for POTRAZ reports
• Provides inputs into Radio network optimization records
• Provides inputs into sectional periodic reports.

4. SHE AND POLICIES AND PROCEDURES COMPLIANCE

• Complies with the company SHE policy.
• Ensures that network elements/nodes/sites security is in place and adhered to at all the times in liaison with Business Risk.

5. SERVICES & SYSTEMS INNOVATION DESIGN INPUTS

• Designs and/or provides Coverage, Capacity, Quality and Infrastructure inputs for services and systems designs and recommendations to Planning section.
• Uncover new opportunities to solve customer complaints, develops abstractions that the architects will build on.
• Life cycle planning and modelling of infrastructure solutions and technologies
• Developing innovative network solutions based on the customer’s growth plans, capacity constraints, complaints, new features and technologies.

6. WORST CELLS ANALYSIS AND RESOLUTIONS

• Analyses worst performing cells through statistical data analysis, root cause analysis, parameter checks, etc. in order to resolve those that require your section or issue work orders for those that require other sections to attend and recommend to NOC to raise TTs to that effect
