Network Security Specialist

The incumbent will report to the Systems Engineer – Networks and will be responsible for the following, among other duties:-

• In liaison with the Systems Engineer,Networks and Systems Support Manager, analyse and establish security requirements for the organisation’s network and systems; determine the most appropriate anti-virus, anti-malware solutions, acquire and deploy these within the company’s computing infrastructure.
• Design and deploy mechanisms to defend networks and systems against unauthorized access, modification and/or destruction
• Configure and maintain security tools such as firewalls, anti-virus software, patch management systems, etc., configure and deploy e-mail gateway security as a first line defense to e-mail communication
• Define user access privileges, control structures and resources to use to enforce adherence to granted privileges and maintenance of established control structures
• Assist the Systems Engineer- Networks in periodically performing vulnerability testing, risk analyses and security assessments to determine weak points within the companys network and systems and recommend appropriate measures to fix the vulnerabilities
• Regularly update switch, router and security appliance software to ensure software related vulnerabilities are curbed and ensure configurations of all networking devices are regularly backed up to safe repositories
• Create network security standard operating procedures and maintain all documentation and manuals related to network and systems security for the organisation
• Determine potential telephony related vulnerabilities and establish appropriate security measures to put in place to foil these vulnerabilities.

Qualifications and Experience
• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Network Engineering or equivalent.
• At least 3 years covering; Cisco based network security at LAN and WAN level; experience in deploying & administering Cisco network devices, WAN links and LANs; experience in configuring deploying and managing e-mail on both Windows and Linux platforms
• Working knowledge of fixed telephone network is an added advantage.
• Cisco Security certification is an added advantage
