Position Overview

The Investment Officer role is to identify and evaluate potential investments in innovative start-ups and new technologies. They will be expected to use financial models and market research to assess the viability and growth potential of companies. They will also work with portfolio companies to help drive their success and identify new investment opportunities

Principal Duties

• Research new industries or technologies that could be lucrative investment opportunities.
• Recommend specific venture capital investments to fund managers based on the analysis of all available information.
• Conduct due diligence on prospective investments, including financial analysis, industry research, and management interviews.
• Negotiate terms of investment deals with company founders and management teams.
• Managing and monitoring portfolio companies, providing support and advice as needed to help them grow and upscale.
• Negotiating and structuring deals with co-investors, limited partners, and other stakeholders.
• Monitoring macroeconomic trends and developments to identify changes that could impact the venture capital industry.
• Networking with entrepreneurs, investors, and other professionals in the venture capital community.
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all investments made by the firm.

Qualification and Experience

• A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, statistics, and economics or business is the minimum requirement. MBAs and higher degrees in math or financial disciplines are an added advantage.
• A minimum of 5 years practical experience, such as lower-level analyst positions and economic modelling in related industries is required.
• A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Certificate or Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) is required.

• An analytical mind with the ability to detect trends early, and use niche expertise to capitalize on them.
• The ability to pay great attention to detail and the make sound judgment calls under time pressure..
• Computer-sawy and the ability to build advanced financial models..
• Good communication and presentation skills.
