Dairy Value Chain Specialist: We Effect

We Effect, an International Swedish NGO, is implementing an Action funded by the European Union entitled Transforming the Zimbabwe Dairy Value Chain (DVC) for the Future (2019 – 2022).

Purpose of the positionTo contribute to effective and efficient implementation of the Transforming the Zimbabwe Dairy Value Chain for the Future Action especially in the areas of establishment of a performance and evaluation framework of the DVC, development of a dairy sector strategic plan, and development of strategic multilateral partnerships with DVC actors.

Main responsibilitiesFacilitate workshops defining DVC performance information needs; Assist in the development of dairy sector performance data base; Facilitate an assessment of the DVC to understand root causes of underperformance; Facilitate the development of dairy sector strategic plan; Develop inclusive business linkages between producers and integrators including support to private sector integrators to provide markets and business support services; Conduct technical review of desirability, feasibility and viability of matching grant applications submitted by dairy value chain integrators and small-scale farmers; Facilitate production of a national milk map; Organize quality assurance workshops; Assist in the support to refurbishment/modernizing of the Aglabs laboratory; Facilitate analysis of dairy value chain cost drivers; Provide support to ZDIT dairy sector coordination efforts; Participate in Value chain actor meetings and provide technical support on dairy matters to value chain actors; Communicate on matters of interest to dairy value chain actors; Participate in and contribute to the review and testing of dairy project technologies; Produce information and articles that may be required from time to time for the Project Web-site and news-letter; Compile progress and assessment reports as may be required in the project; Attend Project Management Team meetings and We Effect Country Office staff meetings; Carry out any other duties assigned by the Project Coordinator.

QualificationsDegree in dairy, agriculture science, economics, agribusiness, or related field; 5 to 10 years of experience in management, research or technical support to dairy sector; Good knowledge about the dairy sector in Zimbabwe and functional integrated dairy value chain and small-scale dairy farmer production models/concepts; Computer literate and excellent written and oral communication skills; Clean Class 4 driving license and ability to travel in-country.

To applySuccessful candidates will be engaged on an annual contractual basis to be renewed based on performance for a maximum period of four years and will be stationed in the We Effect offices at 221 Fife Avenue, Harare, Zimbabwe.
