Africa University is seeking a skilled, experienced, and highly-motivated individual for the position of Motor Mechanic. This role is responsible for servicing, maintaining, and repairing the University’s fleet of vehicles and mechanical equipment to ensure their safe, reliable, and efficient operation. Reporting to the Fleet Coordinator, the successful candidate will work to ensure that all vehicles, generators, and related equipment are properly maintained and available to support the smooth day-to-day operations of the University.
Key Responsibilities
- Servicing and repairing the University fleet, including light vehicles, heavy vehicles, buses, and tractors
- Repairing and servicing University generators both on and off campus
- Preparing University buses for VID fitness inspections
- Assisting the Procurement department in sourcing appropriate spare parts
- Advising management on the selection of new vehicles and the disposal of redundant fleet
Requirements
- National Certificate in Motor Mechanics
- Journeyman Class One in Motor Mechanics
- Valid Class One Driver’s Licence is a must
- Defensive Driving Certificate
- Valid Medical Certificate
- Must be below 55 years of age
- At least eight (8) years’ practical experience in the repair and maintenance of light vehicles, heavy vehicles (including buses), generators, and brush cutters
- Knowledge of fleet policies, safety regulations, and relevant compliance standards
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and experience in fleet management software
