Position: Housing and Social Services Officer- Grade 10

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the above post of Housing and Social Services Officer that has risen within Makonde Rural District Council.
Reports to: the Chief Executive Officer.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provision of Sound Social Services & Amenities in the District.
  • Supervision of operations of Council Schools and Clinics within Makonde District.
  • Management of urban and communal land in the council area.
  • Management of the district Housing Sector and Townships Management.
  • Coordination of Disaster Management activities in liaison with the District Civil Protection Unit.
  • Coordination of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) activities with the Engineering Department.
  • Coordination of NGO activities in Council’s area of jurisdiction.
  • Servicing the Council Housing, Social Services and Gender Committee.
  • Departmental budget preparation, monitoring, and implementation.
  • Formulation, review, and implementation of Departmental policies and procedures.
  • Coordination of Junior Council activities
  • Any other duties assigned by the Chief Executive Officer

QUALIFICATIONS and ATTRIBUTES

  • A Degree in Administration, Local Governance, Social Science or any other relevant degree from a recognized University.
  • A relevant Master’s degree is an added advantage.
  • Local authority experience and membership of a recognized professional body are added advantages.
  • A minimum of four (4) years relevant post-qualification experience in middle or senior management, preferably within a local authority or Local Government environment.
  • Must be 35 years of age and above.
  • A clean Class 4 Drivers license is a distinct advantage.
  • No criminal record and a clean record of service within the local government fraternity.
