Vacancy- Farm Operations Manager
We have been tasked by one of our clients to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced individual to fill the position of Farm Operations Manager.
Location : Midlands Province
Industry : Agriculture-Livestock
Reporting : To the Board

Job Purpose
The Farm Operations Manager will specialise in commercial goat production and will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of the farm. The position ensures productive and efficient breeding, managing farm staff, coordinating with suppliers, maintaining farm infrastructure, and implementing strategies to optimize production and profitability.

Key Responsibilities
1. Financial
• Monitor company performance, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of all Company financial reporting activities.
• Formulating an annual operational and expenditure budget for the business.
• Ensuring that sound financial management principles are adhered to including identifying and managing risks.

2. Process & Systems
Strategy Management
• Overseeing all operations and business activities to ensure they produce the desired results and are consistent with the overall strategy and mission of the Company.
• Implementing and reviewing of the effectiveness of the Board approved business model and strategy.
• Maintain accountability with the board.
• Creating and implementing viable Farm systems and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Implementing initiatives to drive revenue, lower operating costs while maintaining quality products that are competitive.
• Optimising the use of land, water, labor, and equipment to maximize efficiency and minimize waste.
• Implementing and maintaining quality control standards for all farm products and processes.
• Managing all stakeholders.

Herd Management
• Ensuring compliance with government regulations and health and safety standards.
• Oversee all aspects of goat herd management, including breeding, kidding, weaning, and vaccination programs.
• Monitor herd health and implement effective disease prevention and treatment protocols.
• Develop and maintain accurate records of individual animals, breeding history, health treatments, and production performance.
Feeding and Nutrition
• Design and implement appropriate nutrition programs to meet the specific requirements of different goat groups (i.e., kids, breeding does, and bucks).
Farm Operations and Infrastructure
• Manage the overall farm operations, including maintenance of buildings, fences, equipment and pastures.
• Implement efficient systems for waste management, biosecurity, and water and electricity supply.

3. People and Development
Team Leadership and Staff Management
• Leading and motivating subordinates to develop a high performing team.
• Hire, train, and supervise farm staff, ensuring they are properly trained in goat care and farm management practices.
• Provide guidance and motivational support to the team, fostering a positive work environment.
• Promote the wellness of staff and implementing policies in line with labour legislation, health and safety guidelines and environmental regulations to create a diverse and positive working environment.

4. Customer
Marketing and Sales
• Develop and execute sales strategies for goat products (meat, milk, cheese, etc.).
• Maintain relationships with potential buyers, ensuring consistent market access and exploring new market opportunities.

Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, or related fields is preferred.
• A Master’s Degree in Business Administration ora related field.
• Proven experience in managing a commercial goat farm or equivalent livestock management experience.
• In-depth knowledge of goat care, nutrition, breeding, health management, and common diseases.
• Strong leadership and organisational skills, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to make informed decisions in a fastpaced environment.
• Solid understanding of financial managementand budgeting principles.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members, suppliers, and buyers.
