Key Responsibilities
- Designing, implementing and optimising irrigation and water reticulation systems across the estate.
- Managing daily irrigation operations to ensure reliable, efficient and timely water distribution to all production areas.
- Supervising and coordinating irrigation and maintenance teams, including workforce planning, deployment and performance management.
- Overseeing the operation, maintenance and reliability of bulk water supply systems, pumping stations, pipelines and associated infrastructure.
- Monitoring water reticulation and irrigation system performance, identifying faults and implementing timely corrective actions.
- Monitoring water consumption and implementing measures to improve water use efficiency and minimise losses.
- Planning and coordinating preventative and corrective maintenance of water reticulation and irrigation infrastructure.
- Maintaining accurate operational records, maintenance schedules, water usage reports and other relevant documentation.
Requirements
- Degree in Irrigation Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or related field.
- Proven experience in drip and pivot irrigation systems.
- Strong background in irrigation system design and field operations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage technical and general labour teams.
- Experience in maintenance of bulk water and irrigation infrastructure.
- Good problem-solving, planning and communication skills.
- Vast experience in sugarcane production and knowledge on drip irrigation system.
- Budgeting skills, Safety-Health and Environment consciousness and ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Clean Class 4 driver’s license.
