Telephone Operator

Duties

Serves as the Telephone Switchboard Operator for the U.S. Embassy and the on-site U.S. Foreign Affairs Agencies. Provides coverage to the Embassy Receptionist and the Diplomatic Mail room during staffing shortages.Operates the Embassy telephone switchboard console by routing incoming calls to the appropriate sections and places outgoing local and international calls.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:EXPERIENCE: 

Two years’ experience as a receptionist or telephone operator is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:  Must have a working knowledge of Department of State policies, procedures and practices governing telephone operations.

Education Requirements:Successful Completion of Secondary Education is required.

Evaluations:“This may be tested”

• LANGUAGE: Level III Good working knowledge of  written and spoken English  and Level II  in written and spoken Shona or Ndebele is required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

Basic Computer skills, including the ability to type using a computerized word processing application is required.
