Policy and Advocacy Intern: Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe (WCoZ)

The WCoZ is a network of women’s rights activists and women’s rights organizations in Zimbabwe with national structures. The WCoZ is a forum where women meet and engage in collective activism on issues affecting women’s and girls in Zimbabwe. Its central role is to provide a focal point for activism on women’s and girl’s rights. WCoZ brings women from diverse backgrounds to collectively advocate for the attainment and enjoyment of their rights. The organisational members of the Coalition work in diverse fields including health, legal aid, access to education, gender-based violence, economic empowerment, media, climate and environment, peace building and politics and decision making.

The intern will be reporting to the Policy and Advocacy Officer.

Duties
Assists the policy and advocacy officer in designing, tracking and monitoring advocacy strategies, activities within the organisation at both community and national level; Assists in preparing policy analysis, submissions and position papers on various women’s and girls’ rights; Assists the Policy and Advocacy work in designing collective advocacy and lobbying strategies in conjuction with chapter members, clusterleads, member organisations and other stakeholders; Tracks and consolidates monthly reports from community champions; Support all interventions related to gender and women’s participation in politics and decision-making processes at community and national level and document all advocacy results; Attends Parliament sessions to track and record women’s and girl’s issues; Carries any other duties as assigned from time to time.

The Person
Must be able to work under pressure and minimum supervision; Must be passionate about women’s rights issues; Must be flexible and able to travel at any given time.

Academic Qualifications
Sound academic background on policy and advocacy with regards to gender issues; University Degree in Social Sciences or related

Experience
At least 6 months – 1 year demonstratable experience in the NGO sector.
