Post: Medical Consultant (part-time)
Station: Harare.
Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer.
Duration: Five- year renewable fixed term
Key Result Areas
• Ensuring that policies and procedures for the management of the blood donors and donor clinics are in compliance with the national Standards and international best practices.
• Ensuring that all policies and procedures relating to testing, processing, storage and issuing of blood products comply with the Standards and international best practices.
• Directly responsible for the donor and therapeutic Apheresis activities, i.e., clinical assessment of candidates for Apheresis and liaison with relevant doctors of the patients.
• Assisting in the training of all medical, nursing and laboratory personnel of the NBSZ according to the set standards.
• Evaluating requests for directed donations and therapeutic donors in liaison with their respective
• 6 Educating and training hospital and other health care professionals in the handling of, blood products and in promoting the appropriate clinical use of blood.
• Liaising with clinicians and laboratory staff on transfusion matters and special requests for blood products.
• Advising management, the Board and the Ministry of Health on transfusion policy matters.
• Undertaking research work; support research on any aspect of blood transfusion medicine or the activities of NBSZ in order to support policy/procedure formulation or changes.
• Responsible for the management of the investigation of “relationship testing” (paternity/maternity disputes and related issues)
Qualifications and Experience
1. A Medical Degree. (MBChB)
2. Three years’ experience as a consultant in Clinical Hematology or Transfusion Medicine.
3. Valid practicing certificate.
4. Clean Class 4 driver’s license.
