Welthungerhilfe (German Agro Action) PVO 21/2003 is leading a consortium of NGOs to support the Zimbabwe Ministry of Agriculture’s Departments of Research, Education and Extension in its Agriculture Knowledge and Innovations System Project funded by the EU under the Zimbabwe Agricultural Growth Programme.

We are looking for suitable candidates to fill the positions below. If you are prepared to dedicate yourself to carrying out projects under sometimes difficult conditions and you match the requirements set out below, we look forward to receiving your application.

The main function of this position is to enhance cattle business and herd management, targeting the required quality and quantity of meat to meet market demand and to increase sales.

The main duties of the advisor will be:

  • Oversee the implementation of all projects activities including establishment, strengthening and scaling up cattle business centres;
  • Communicate, coordinate and work closely with other specialists and facilitate mutually beneficial relationships among stakeholders;
  • Provide production related information; provision of on-going technical support to field staff on good animal husbandry practice, natural resource management and beef value chain development;
  • Facilitate linkages, work closely with key beef value chain input service providers and major private sector players (drugs/chemicals, supplementary stock feed, seed, fertilizers), integrators and off-takers;
  • Provide market information and intelligence, training to develop their skills and change of farmer attitude /mind-set from subsistence cattle keepers to sustainable cattle producers to meet market demand (Farming as a business).

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Engineering, Animal Science, Crop Science;
  • A minimum of three years working experience in a similar position.
  • Experience in an International organisation is desirable;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English;
  • Proficient with computer packages including Microsoft Office;
  • A clean class 4 driver’s licence
