Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Irrigation Engineer to join our organisation. Reporting to the Head-Projects and Technical Services, the incumbent will among other things be responsible for:

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
• Designing irrigation systems, including Centre Pivot, Sprinkler and Drip Irrigation systems.
• Overseeing the construction of irrigation designs to ensure quality and adherence to specifications.
• Developing pump station designs and managing construction processes.
• Creating detailed designs of irrigation and drainage networks for selected irrigation methods.
• Producing comprehensive operational, technical, and cost analyses for various irrigation options.
• Supervising the construction of irrigation systems such as dams, canals, and ditches.
• Supervising irrigation contractors to ensure they meet required standards.
• Leading the survey team for all irrigation and development processes requiring survey work.
• Developing irrigation operations and maintenance manuals for irrigation cycles and infrastructure.
• Supervising and controlling project activities to ensure timely completion and budget adherence.
• Providing detailed Bills of Quantities that outline material estimates and work requirements for budgeting purposes.
• Carrying out technical diagnostics for malfunctioning pumping systems used for water supply.
• Preparing maintenance programs for irrigation systems to ensure long-term functionality.
• Training subordinate staff on the operations and maintenance of irrigation equipment and structures.
• Designing and implementing irrigation solutions for both existing and new developments.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Qualifications & Experience
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Irrigation Engineering or equivalent.
• 3 years related experience
• Field experience in irrigation installations and maintenance is an added advantage.

• Strong agriculture data analysis skills
• Highly proficient in common computer packages.
• Working knowledge and understanding of agriculture policies, rules and regulations
• Ability to work independently and take initiative with minimal supervision
• Paying attention to detail
