Background
The UNDP internship programme offers an outstanding graduate-level student the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UNDP’s work with the objective of deepening his/her knowledge and understanding of UNDP’s goals, principles and activities. It is designed to complement development-oriented studies with practical experience in various professional aspects; Under the guidance and direct supervision of the ICT Specialist, the ICT Intern provides daily technical support to users of information management tools and technology infrastructure; The ICT Intern promotes a client-oriented approach.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provides effective support focusing on achievement of the following results:
• Provides daily on-site support on the usage of software and hardware to the end-users;• Assists to ensure that information and communication technology (ICT) equipment is in good working condition and assists with maintenance and minor repairs;• Assists in the installation of commercial and in-house software and related upgrades;• Responds to end-user needs regarding network access;• Assists in upgrading patch and anti-virus programs on a timely basis;• Supports equipment inventory and ICT Unit record-keeping;• Assists in backup and restoration procedures for local drives. Maintenance of backup logs. Assistance to organization of off-site storage of backups;• Assists in training end users on ICT issues;• Performs additional tasks as requested by supervisor, as appropriate.

Required Skills and Experience
Education
• Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);• or completed full-time studies at a university in information and communications technology, information systems, computer science, or related field;• Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
Other Skills and Requirements
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office software, any Windows Operating System;• Good communication skills and ability to work effectively under pressure in a team and in a multicultural environment.
Language• Excellent written and spoken English language.
Conditions
• Internships within the UN system are unpaid and subject to conditions the applicant must get familiar with prior to signing his/her internship agreement;• The costs associated with the internship must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements for travel, accommodation etc.• UNDP only accepts interns for a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 6 months;• UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents, illness or death during the internship;• The intern must provide proof of enrollment in health insurance plan;• Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;• Interns are responsible to arrange for their own visa and residence documents, and need to plan for these well in advance;• The purpose of the internship is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies; therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship;
