Job Title: GIS Analyst Location: Zimbabwe (Hybrid) Closing Date: 31 July 2026 Contract: Full-Time Work Arrangement: Hybrid (2 days per week in the office) Salary: USD $37,000-$44,000 per year (Approx. USD $3,083-$3,667 per month) This full-time hybrid role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to wildlife conservation by collecting, managing, analyzing, and visualizing geospatial data that supports conservation planning and decision-making. The successful candidate will work with multidisciplinary teams, partners, and field staff to develop high-quality geospatial products that improve conservation outcomes while strengthening GIS capacity across projects. About the Role The GIS Analyst will support IFAW’s conservation programmes through the management of geospatial information, production of maps, development of Web GIS applications, and maintenance of geospatial databases. The role also involves supporting field data collection, remote sensing activities, and promoting best practices in spatial data management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect, validate, and consolidate spatial and attribute data from field teams and partners.
  • Support GPS and mobile-based data collection using platforms such as EarthRanger, SMART, Survey123, and related tools.
  • Maintain organizational geodatabases while ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and consistency.
  • Perform data cleaning, verification, digitization, and quality assurance.
  • Produce professional maps and cartographic products.
  • Conduct spatial analysis and spatial modelling to support conservation initiatives.
  • Assist with remote sensing, imagery interpretation, habitat assessment, and conservation monitoring.
  • Develop and maintain interactive Web GIS applications and dashboards.
  • Design engaging ArcGIS StoryMaps and geospatial communication products for partners, donors, communities, and decision-makers.
  • Improve accessibility of spatial information through digital visualization tools.
  • Provide GIS technical support to project teams and implementing partners.
  • Build partner capacity in spatial data collection, analysis, visualization, and reporting.
  • Document GIS workflows, methodologies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Support implementation of organizational GIS standards and innovative geospatial solutions.
  • Maintain accurate metadata and data management documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or a related field.
  • At least two (2) years of GIS, spatial analysis, or geospatial data management experience (relevant internships may be considered).
  • Strong proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, QGIS, or equivalent GIS software.
  • Experience using GPS and mobile data collection platforms such as Survey123, EarthRanger, SMART, Field Maps, or similar applications.
  • Good understanding of: Cartography Coordinate systems Geodatabases Metadata standards Spatial data management principles
  • Experience developing Web GIS applications, dashboards, and ArcGIS StoryMaps.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel to field locations, including remote environments, for up to 20% of working time.
