Field Officers (WASH): International Medical Corps x5
International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs.
Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance.
Project background
International Medical Corps is anticipating six months OFDA funded emergency response project to respond to the emergency caused by Cyclone Idai in Manicaland province. The project focus is on addressing emergency WASH needs at the health facility and community level.
International Medical Corps is therefore seeking qualified candidates for this project. The positions are contingent upon funding being received from the donor. The incumbents will be based in any of the targeted areas of operation and will be working closely with relevant ministries in Manicaland province.
Role Purpose
The Field Officer is expected to oversee tasks related to the selection of the beneficiaries, day to day implementation of activities, monitoring activities, communication with counterparts involved in the project preparation, and evaluation in accordance with the existing regulation of Zimbabwe and Donor requirements.
Key responsibilities
Directly implement quality activities, monitoring and evaluation of activities in the communities as per donor and organizational guidelines; Coordinates with Local Authorities and Government line ministries at field level in program areas in ensuring that WASH interventions are well structured and articulated to appropriate target population; Have a good understanding and appreciation of both WASH software and hardware activities; Identifies and conducts trainings at ward level on PHHE and CHC formation; Directly manage the day-to-day hygiene promotion activities in the field; Ensure that WASH rehabilitation and hygiene promotion activities meet stated objectives within the timeframe, ensuring deadlines are met; Ensure program activities foster accountability to beneficiaries, and that gender and protection sensitivity and inclusion are adequately addressed in programming; Responsible for ensuring that monitoring and data collection of all WASH indicators are in line with the approved monitoring framework, using all the correct monitoring tools and at the frequency prescribed; Enhances exit strategies for interventions in programming as an assurance of sustainability of the project after the phase-out; Ensures that organizational goals, vision and the mission statement are clearly understood and sustained in all areas of operation in the targeted communities; Provide quality weekly reports of progress on all activities.
Candidate Qualification
Diploma in Social Science, Environmental Health, health related field; 2 years of experience in the relevant field; Ability to work in rural conditions and strong knowledge about WASH hardware and software activities; Competent oral and written communication skills; Competent computer skills; Good teamwork skills and experience working in a team; Experience in riding a motorcycle and with valid class 3 / 4 driver’s license.
