Field Officer with proven experience in horticulture production and marketing: Local NGO

To assist small holder farmers to sustainably improve horticulture production and productivity at irrigation schemes, introduce new marketable horticultural crops; provide farmers with “hands-on” technical assistance in horticulture production and marketing. Assist farmers to improve household nutrition and hygiene practices. The position is based in the rural areas and one must be willing to stay within the communities.

Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Assist in selection of beneficiary farmers;

Mobilize and conduct trainings and extension services in the selected irrigation scheme(s);

Introduce new marketable horticultural crops at irrigation scheme(s);

Demonstrate production of a range of horticultural crops;

Monitor and manage the demonstration sites to the highest standard; Implement activities according to monthly work plans;

Coordinate and collaborate activities in the operational area with relevant stakeholders;

Facilitate and develop input and output markets within the selected scheme;

Ensure all field data are captured accurately on M and E tools provided and submitted timeously;

Organize and conduct field days in the operational area;

Maintain an up to date database of farmers;

Collaborate and work closely with local authorities and Agritex personnel and program relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications and requirements

At least a diploma in horticulture.

At least 3 years’ hands-on experience in production and marketing of wide range of horticultural crops.

Relevant experience in improving productivity and incomes of small holder farmers.

Good knowledge of M & E.

Excellent inter-personal and communication skills.

Valid motor bike license and ability to ride motorcycle are a must.
