EXECUTIVE DEAN
Faculty of Medicine
The University seeks to recruit a focused, results oriented and strategic Executive Dean for the Faculty of Medicine which consists of the following Departments: Medicine, Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology and Biochemistry, Pathology, Community Medicine, Paediatrics, Nursing and Midwifery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Surgery and Anaesthetic; and Psychiatry, Social and Behavioural Sciences.This is a full-time high level position to be held for a period of four (4) years, in the first instance. The incumbent reports to the Vice-Chancellor and is a member of the senior administrative team of the Institution.
Main Responsibilities
The Dean is the chief academic, administrative and financial officer of the Faculty, and will be responsible for research and academic leadership; administration and management; community outreach; income generation and financial management of the Faculty. Further, the incumbent is required to generate external funding for research and teaching. A proven track record of achievement in the above areas is a must.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
- Academic and/ or professional qualifications from an approved institution, preferably to the level of a Doctorate Degree in any field of Medicine in one of the disciplines offered by the Faculty;
- Be at least at Senior Lecturer Grade (or have credentials that would qualify the candidate for appointment at that level);
- A proven track record of success in academic and administrative leadership;
- Registration with the Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Council of Zimbabwe (MDPCZ).

- Proven commitment to academic excellence and collaboration across disciplines;
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with students, academic staff, administrators and external constituencies;
- Demonstrated ability to forge partnerships and garner support from campus, business and community constituencies leading to industrial attachment and employment opportunities for students.
