The Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) invites applications for the Digital Humanism Junior Visiting Fellowship for the 2026-2027 academic year.
The fellowship is open to candidates from all academic disciplines whose research examines the complex interplay between technology and humankind, with particular attention to societal, economic, geopolitical and other relevant dimensions of digitalization.
Important: The program is distinct from Digital Humanities. Applications that merely use digital technologies as research tools in the humanities will not be considered.

Key Responsibilities
- Selected candidates will spend three consecutive months at the IWM in Vienna between February and June 2027 as Digital Humanism Junior Visiting Fellows.
- The fellowship period will overlap with the presence of the Senior Digital Humanism Visiting Fellow.
- Fellows are responsible for covering their living and research expenses from the stipend, including: Travel to and from Vienna, Accommodation, Health insurance, Utilities, Local transportation, Telecommunications, Literature and other research costs, Conference fees.
- The IWM provides fellows with office space, internet access, in-house research facilities and administrative services free of charge . Fellows also join the IWM community of scholars and are invited to participate in Institute activities.
Requirements
- Be enrolled in a doctoral program; or
- Have obtained a PhD no longer than four years before the application deadline.
- For PhD holders, the degree must have been obtained on or after 21 September 2022 .
- Candidates may not submit multiple fellowship applications during the same academic year.
- Previous IWM fellows must wait three academic years before applying for another fellowship.
