About the Role
Our client, a leading entity in Zimbabwe’s printing and publishing sector, is seeking an experienced and results-oriented Chief Operating Officer (COO). This executive-level position reports directly to the CEO and is responsible for leading all core operational departments including HR, Finance, Editorial, Commercial/Marketing, Newspaper Sales, Printing, IT, and Facilities Management.
This is a strategic leadership role requiring a strong commercial acumen, team leadership, and operational oversight to drive growth and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning: Support the CEO in developing and executing long-term business strategies
- Operational Leadership: Optimize processes, implement SOPs, and define KPIs to improve productivity and profitability
- Business Development: Identify and recommend new commercial opportunities to the CEO
- Content Leadership: Oversee thought leadership content (e.g., articles and publications) to enhance organizational visibility
- Team Management: Lead multidisciplinary teams and foster a high-performance culture
- Risk Management: Design and implement comprehensive risk management and contingency strategies
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and manage strong relationships with partners, clients, and key stakeholders
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Media, Journalism, or related field
- MBA/MBL or equivalent postgraduate business qualification
- Minimum 10 years senior management experience, preferably in a commercial or publishing environment
- Additional certification in Digital Marketing or Sales is a plus
- Proven success in driving revenue growth and leading cross-functional teams
- Strong understanding of digital media, marketing, and sales strategies
- Excellent leadership, analytical, communication, and decision-making skills
- Ability to thrive under pressure and manage tight deadlines
