Job Purpose

 

 

A Learner Guide is responsible for providing guided tours and ensuring an exceptional experience for clients. The role requires in-depth knowledge of local flora and fauna, excellent communication skills, and the ability to engage and educate participants. The Learner Guide must be enthusiastic, friendly, and proactive in delivering the highest level of customer service.

Key Responsibilities

 

 

  • Conduct guided tours, offering informative and engaging commentary about wildlife and plant life.

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all guests during tours.

  • Answer guests’ questions, providing accurate and detailed explanations about animals, birds, and plants, and share interesting facts, anecdotes, and stories related to wildlife and nature.

  • Interact with individuals or groups, ensuring their needs and expectations are met.

  • Develop personalized connections with guests, catering to their specific interests.

  • Provide exceptional customer service to guests during their camp stays.

  • Handle emergencies and unexpected situations with composure and efficiency.

Qualifications and Skills

 

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Holder of a Learners Guiding License.

  • Holder of a class 4 driver’s license and defensive driving course.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the guiding field.

  • First Aid and CPR certification required; additional outdoor/remote area certifications are advantageous.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of wildlife and flora.

  • Excellent verbal communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to engage and captivate diverse audiences and adjust communication style as necessary.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport and establish connections with participants.

  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.

  • Ability to handle unexpected situations, emergencies, and difficult participants with calmness and professionalism.

  • Proficiency in using technology, such as navigation devices or audio systems, during tours.

  • Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
