Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications or experience do I need to become a Sales Representative at Solid Stone Investments in Zimbabwe?

Typically, a minimum of five O-Levels including English and Mathematics is expected, with a tertiary qualification in sales, marketing, or business being an added advantage. Employers in Zimbabwe value at least 1-2 years of proven sales experience, especially in FMCG or industrial sectors. Good communication and negotiation skills in English are essential, and knowledge of local languages like Shona or Ndebele helps.

What are the day-to-day responsibilities of a Sales Representative in Zimbabwe?

You will be expected to source new clients, visit existing customers to maintain relationships, and achieve monthly sales targets set by the company. Daily admin tasks include submitting route plans, sales reports, and managing cash or credit collections from customers. You will also need to handle customer complaints and provide after-sales support, which is critical for retaining clients in the local market.

What is the local work culture and expectations for Sales Representatives in Zimbabwe?

The work culture is results-driven with a strong emphasis on meeting targets, and you are often expected to work beyond standard hours when chasing deadlines or doing field visits. Sales reps are usually required to be self-motivated, resourceful, and comfortable with frequent travel using public transport or company vehicles if provided. In Zimbabwe, there is also a strong expectation of professionalism in client interactions, as word-of-mouth reputation significantly impacts business.

What realistic career progression paths exist for a Sales Representative in Zimbabwe?

Starting as a Sales Representative, you can progress to Senior Sales Rep, then to Key Accounts Manager or Sales Supervisor, and eventually to Sales Manager or Regional Sales Manager. Progression depends on consistent performance, meeting or exceeding targets, and taking on additional responsibilities such as mentoring junior reps. In Zimbabwe, moving across industries is common once you have a proven track record in sales.

What typical benefits can I expect in a sales role in Zimbabwe, such as leave, medical aid, or pension?

Most formal employers in Zimbabwe offer at least 15 working days of annual leave, plus public holidays, and may contribute to a pension fund such as a registered occupational scheme. Medical aid coverage (e.g., CIMAS, Premier, or similar) is often provided, though the level of cover varies by company. Sales roles may also include a transport allowance or company vehicle, commission structure, and cellphone or airtime allowance, but these are not guaranteed.

What is the best way to apply and what do employers in Zimbabwe look for in a sales candidate?

Applications should be submitted through the channel specified in the job ad—often email with your CV and covering letter, or via online job portals like Zimbabwe Job Market, 263Chat, or social media pages. Your CV must be concise, highlight your sales achievements and targets met, and include at least two traceable referees, preferably former supervisors. Employers in Zimbabwe look for resilience, honesty, and a clear understanding of the local market landscape and customer needs.
