Job Summary

The study aims to identify challenges and barriers to youths participation in selected value chains, and livelihoods activities and proffer recommendations to enhance youth inclusion and participation.

Specific Objectives of the Consultancy

Duties And Responsibilities

The objectives of this consultancy are:

To establish why youths do not actively participate in agriculture (primary production) and other agricultural value chain activities (barriers, challenges, limitations, and effects)
To establish why youth are not actively participating in Village Savings and Lending (VSL) groups (barriers, challenges, limitations, and effects).
To explore the benefits of participation and effects of non-participation, of youths in livelihood activities
To explore youths’ preferences on livelihoods activities in rural areas (barriers, challenges, and limitations).
To conduct a policy analysis matrix for youth participation in economic activities.
The consultant/s will explore in this regard, further investigating what drives youth to change their behaviour, and what messages and communication channels the projects can most effectively use to foster participation.

Qualifications And Experience

Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of experience in consulting, conceptualization, designing and/or managing projects in the area of Agriculture, Development and Youth Programming of which at least two were in a practical / field tested context.
Proven previous experience in designing YPS strategies and programmes with focus on most marginalized and excluded groups (sample of previous work will be required). Experience in other sectors (e.g., Food systems, Energy and Water management) will be accepted.
Excellent command of English, both written and oral, including report writing skills
Previous experience in designing YPS strategies and programmes in Zimbabwe is a strong asset, but not required
Previous work with SNV or other International or UN agencies is an asset, but not required
Proficiency in Shona and or Ndebele language is an asset
