Key Responsibilities
- Manages all underground mining operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective production
- Plans and coordinates underground mining activities in line with production targets
- Supervises underground personnel and contractors to ensure compliance with operational standards
- Implements mining plans, schedules, and production strategies
- Ensures compliance with mining legislation, safety regulations, and environmental standards
- Monitors underground production performance and implements continuous improvement initiatives
- Coordinates ground support, ventilation, and mine development activities
- Manages equipment utilization and maintenance to maximize operational efficiency
- Conducts risk assessments and enforces health and safety procedures
- Prepares operational reports, production forecasts, and performance analyses
- Develops and mentors technical and supervisory staff to enhance operational capability
- Collaborates with geology, processing, engineering, and maintenance teams to optimize mine performance
Requirements
- Degree in Mining Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in underground mining operations within the gold mining industry
- Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency is an added advantage
- Thorough knowledge of underground mining methods, mine planning, and production management
- Strong understanding of mining legislation, occupational health and safety, and environmental regulations
- Proven leadership and people management skills
- Experience in mine planning software and mining management systems
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver production targets while maintaining the highest safety standards
