Key Responsibilities
- Train and supervise junior staff in the proper work methods/procedures and in the preparation of practicals for students.
- Conduct, or assist in conducting Crop Sciences and Horticulture laboratory practicals.
- Source laboratory equipment and consumables.
- Assist and supervise Teaching Assistants in the performance of their duties.
- Assist in the setting up of apparatus/preparation of chemical reagents for research and practicals.
- Provide technical support and services for academic members of staff and researchers in the field of Crop Science.
- Maintain teaching equipment and instrument to ensure accuracy and efficient performance.
- Demonstrate the use of equipment and instrument to students and staff.
- Organise field visits and practicals.
- Participate in the development of quality standards and programs for the Crop Science laboratories.
- Monitor laboratory work to ensure compliance with set standards.
- Check stocks of consumables and advise on re-order levels.
Requirements
- Applicants must possess a Bachelor of Science/Horticulture/Biological Sciences or any related field.
- They should be able to operate the major equipment found in a Crop Science laboratory.
- The candidate must have at least two years of relevant experience working in a teaching laboratory at tertiary levels
- A Master’s degree in the related field will be an added advantage.
