Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the Mining Department to achieve mining plans in terms of waste and ore throughput safely and at the correct grades.
  • Manage the Underground and Development sections, ensuring production and development targets are met. Ensure the right labour numbers match the size of the business as per budget and mine plan.
  • Manage effective implementation of CAPEX and OPEX for the Mining Department.
  • Develop and coordinate the enforcement of daily, monthly and annual operational and execution plans for the mining operation.
  • Liaise with Engineering, Mining and Mining Technical Services departments to achieve operational stability in line with short-term and long-term mine plans.
  • Ensure effective and efficient allocation of mining resources as measured by schedule compliance.
  • Champion continuous improvement by identifying, evaluating, justifying and implementing improvement initiatives to reduce mining costs.
  • Continuously engage Mining Technical Services for production planning and optimisation across all stages and activities of the mining value chain.
  • Assess the adequacy of mining infrastructure and motivate and budget for infrastructure improvements.
  • Coordinate enforcement of daily inspections on Mining Contractor operations to ensure compliance with procedures, standards, safeguards, costs and legislation.
  • Ensure strict adherence to and implementation of all management systems and procedures, including compliance with ISO 14001 EMS, ISO 45001 OH&S and ISO 9001.

Requirements

  • BSc (Hons) in Mining Engineering.
  • At least 15 years’ mining management experience, of which at least 10 years should be in underground mining operations.
  • Full Blasting Licence.
  • Experience in narrow reef mining.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical and innovative solutions.
  • Demonstrable understanding and interpretation of applicable legislation and Mining Regulations.
