Key Responsibilities

  • To manage all mining processes, i.e. breaking, tramming, hoisting, trucking, weighing, stockpiling at the ROM pad and ancillary services in accordance with approved mine plans, cost structure, manpower organisation and business priorities.
  • Supervise all direct and indirect reports in the Mining Development or Production sections.
  • Enforce compliance with approved mine plans, mining methods, mine designs, ground control and support systems.
  • Develop and implement mining standards covering both SHEQ and technical issues.
  • Drive the achievement of key mining metrics, including productivity, total volumes, grade and cost, in line with approved business plans and budgets/forecasts.
  • Manage mining capital and operating expenditure (OPEX) projects in line with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensure production and development targets are achieved safely without harm to people, equipment or the environment.
  • Ensure all working areas are safe for personnel.
  • Ensure adequate resources are available to production and development miners to meet operational targets.
  • Train and develop employees through competency assessments, individual development plans and approved training programmes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Mining Engineering.
  • Minimum of 15 years’ mining management experience, with at least 10 years gained in underground mining operations.
  • Valid Full Blasting Licence.
  • Comprehensive understanding of underground mining methods, mine planning principles, drilling and blasting operations, loading and hauling, and production optimisation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical, innovative and effective solutions to operational challenges.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and sound interpretation of applicable mining legislation, statutory requirements and mining regulations.
  • Proven ability to lead mining teams to achieve production, safety, quality and cost objectives.
