Legal Officer

Responsibilities

• Analyzing court process instituted against the Authority and making recommendations on whether to oppose the lawsuit or to settle.
• Drafting new and amending existing legislation.
• Liaising with and instructing external lawyers to represent the Authority where necessary.

• Consulting with the Registrar of the Tax Courts on the setting down of matters that are before the Tax Courts.
• Analysing judgements, advising stakeholders of outcome of litigation cases and future course of action.
• Identifying and preparing cases for prosecution of tax offences.
• Carrying out legal research and providing legal advice to all ZIMRA staff to enable them to effectively carry out their duties.
• Participating in National Works Council meetings and providing legal advice on matters arising therein.

• Offering support services to and undertaking litigation processes in all courts on behalf of the Authority.
• Initiating and reviewing contracts and policies.
• Any other duties that may be assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor of Laws Honours’ Degree (LLBS)
• Masters’ degree is an added advantage.
• Computer literacy is a requirement.
• At least three (3) years working experience in a litigation environment.
• Knowledge of Zimbabwean Taxes, Customs and Labour laws.
• High levels of analytical skills.
• A clean class four driver’s licence.
