INVESTMENT & PROJECT DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE – Munisa Resources 32 views

Job Expired
Munisa Resources is a Zimbabwean mining, resources, infrastructure and commodity company. In a short period we have attracted serious interest from international investors and technical partners across quarrying and aggregates, chrome, coal and infrastructure. Our constraint is not deal flow – it is the discipline of converting opportunity into structured, financeable documentation.

You will help turn conversations into investment cases. Opportunities reach us unstructured: a site visit, a meeting with a partner, an approach from a fund. Working closely with the Managing Director, you will organise that raw material, establish what is missing, gather the technical inputs, build the financial case, and prepare documents that investors, lenders and partners can act on. The role is sector-agnostic, spanning mining, quarrying, infrastructure, energy, agro-industry, logistics and commodity trade.

Job Summary

  • Type: full-time
  • Location: Harare
  • Category: Finance
  • Closing Date: 2026-09-03

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and appraise inbound investment and partnership approaches, and prepare summaries for the Managing Director
  • Build project financial models – capex and opex build-ups, cash flow forecasts, DCF, NPV and IRR, debt sizing and DSCR, sensitivity analysis
  • Draft concept notes, teasers, information memoranda, business plans and funding applications
  • Assist on deal structuring: JV and shareholding structures, off-take and concession arrangements, term sheets
  • Liaise with external specialists – geologists, engineers, quantity surveyors, lawyers, tax advisors – and consolidate their inputs
  • Maintain data rooms and assemble due diligence responses
  • Support engagement with lenders, DFIs, funds and government counterparties including ZIDA

Requirements

  • Degree in finance, economics, engineering or a related quantitative discipline
  • 2-4 years’ relevant experience in transaction advisory, corporate finance, project finance, banking, consulting, or an investment or development finance institution. Exceptional recent graduates with proven modelling and writing ability will be considered
  • Sound financial modelling skills and excellent business writing
  • A structured, questioning mind – able to sit in an ambiguous discussion, ask what nobody has asked, and leave with a clear view of the opportunity and its gaps
  • Willingness to learn quickly across unfamiliar sectors, and the honesty to flag what you do not yet know
  • Advantageous: CFA candidacy, CA(Z), ACCA or a recognised financial modelling qualification; exposure to mining, infrastructure or energy; familiarity with Zimbabwe’s investment and PPP framework

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications and certifications are typically required for this role in Zimbabwe?

A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field is usually required; many employers prefer candidates with professional certifications such as CFA Level I or ACCA (especially if completed or in progress). Local experience with Zimbabwean regulatory frameworks—like RBZ guidelines, ZIMRA tax compliance, or SEC Zimbabwe requirements—is highly valued.

What does a typical day look like for an Investment & Project Development Associate in Zimbabwe?

Daily tasks often include financial modelling for mining or infrastructure projects, preparing feasibility studies aligned with local economic conditions, and liaising with government agencies such as the Ministry of Mines or ZIDA. You’ll also support due diligence, draft project proposals for local and international funders, and coordinate with legal and environmental consultants familiar with Zimbabwean statutory requirements.

How does the work culture and employer expectations differ in Zimbabwe compared to other countries?

Zimbabwean employers value strong interpersonal skills, adaptability to resource-constrained environments, and respect for hierarchical reporting structures—especially when engaging with senior management or government stakeholders. Punctuality, formal communication (including proper salutations in emails), and demonstrated commitment to local content development (e.g., community engagement plans) are consistently expected.

What realistic career progression paths exist for this role in Zimbabwe’s finance sector?

With 3–5 years’ experience, professionals often advance to Senior Investment Analyst or Project Development Manager roles, particularly within mining, energy, or donor-funded development projects. Further growth may lead to positions such as Head of Project Finance or Country Investment Advisor—especially with added expertise in Zimbabwean public-private partnership frameworks or regional SADC investment initiatives.

What benefits are commonly offered to finance professionals in roles like this in Zimbabwe?

Standard benefits include 30 days’ annual leave, medical aid through local providers like NSSA or private schemes (e.g., FBC Health), and pension contributions under the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) or a registered private fund. Some employers also offer housing or transport allowances, though these vary significantly by organisation size and funding source (e.g., donor-funded vs. private equity-backed).

How should I apply, and what do Zimbabwean employers specifically look for in candidates for this role?

Applications are typically submitted via email or LinkedIn with a tailored CV highlighting Zimbabwe-specific project exposure, stakeholder engagement examples, and familiarity with local financial reporting standards (e.g., IFRS as adopted by ZIMRA). Employers prioritise evidence of problem-solving in volatile macroeconomic contexts, fluency in both English and at least one local language (e.g., Shona or Ndebele), and verified references from previous Zimbabwe-based employers or partners.
