Internship (European Investment Bank)
Objective of the traineeship
You will support the social work stream in PJ-SQM-ECSO by implementing specific commitments under the EIB Gender Action Plan and in developing a comprehensive approach to support provided by the social team to Bank staff on overlapping agendas such as gender, economic resilience, conflict and fragility in ACP Countries. You will carry out various tasks all with a focus on actively supporting capacity building / knowledge management in the three thematic areas of gender equality, economic resilience and conflict / fragility. You will provide specific operational support where necessary. The aim being to enhance the social impact of Bank operations and, by building on best practice, to develop scale-able approaches. This work will eventually help the EIB in improving and enhancing its potential social impact in the region.
Responsibilities
The assignment will focus on three critical thematic areas to enhancing the social impact of the Bank’s operations; 1) gender equality and women’s economic empowerment, 2) migration & building economic resilience, and 3) conflict and fragility.
Your main tasks will be:
- Supporting the development of a knowledge management system, including contributing to web based systems, on social development, in particular on gender equality, migration and economic resilience, conflict and fragility;
- Supporting the development of capacity building tools on the three thematic areas;
- Taking stock of, and preparing best practice examples and case studies, of operations that have enhanced the social impact of financial investments in the the thematic areas, and that could be replicated replicated and financed through EIB instruments. This may involve support to the development of the specific operations;
- Contributing to the development of other selected deliverables under the Bank’s social development agenda.
Academic qualifications and professional skills
- Final year of studies or university degree in Social Anthropology, Sociology, Social Sciences, Politics, Economics or any other relevant discipline, with a preferred focus on social development aspects;
- Academic focus or some experience working on either conflict and fragility, gender equality or migration related issues all in the context of international development;
- Some experience with knowledge management and dissemination would be an asset;
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. French and/or Spanish would also be an advantage.
