Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications do I need to become a Funeral Assurance Sales & Client Services Officer in Zimbabwe?

Most employers require at least 5 O-Level passes including English and Mathematics, with a diploma or degree in insurance, marketing, or business studies being an advantage. A short-term insurance certificate from the Insurance Institute of Zimbabwe (IIZ) or completion of IPEC-aligned training is often preferred. Strong communication skills and a clean record are also commonly expected.

What does a typical day look like for a Funeral Assurance Sales & Client Services Officer?

Your day usually involves prospecting for new clients through referrals and community outreach, explaining funeral cover products, and processing policy applications. You will also handle client queries, assist with claims documentation, follow up on premium payments, and maintain accurate records. Field visits to clients' homes or workplaces are common in this role.

Do I need an IPEC licence to sell funeral assurance in Zimbabwe?

Yes, insurance agents selling funeral assurance must be registered with the Insurance and Pensions Commission (IPEC), typically through the company that employs them. Most insurers sponsor their agents through the required registration and training process after hiring. It is advisable to confirm during interviews whether the employer supports agent licensing.

How do sales targets work in Zimbabwe's funeral assurance industry?

Sales officers generally work against monthly targets for new policies sold and premiums collected, which are set by the employer. Meeting targets is important for job security and performance-based incentives, which vary by employer. Consistency in building client relationships is highly valued because renewals matter as much as new business.

What career growth can I expect in this role?

Successful officers often progress to senior sales officer, team leader, branch manager, or agency development roles within a few years. Some move into underwriting, claims administration, or client relationship management. Continuous professional development through IIZ courses strengthens promotion prospects.

How should I apply for this role and what do employers look for?

Prepare a concise CV highlighting any sales, customer service, or insurance experience, and apply directly to Goldenknot through its official channels or advertised contacts. Employers typically look for confidence, resilience, local market knowledge, and willingness to work in the field. Be ready for an interview that may include a role-play or sales pitch assessment.
