Job Purpose
The main purpose of the job is to plan and design major aspects of the Core database Systems and ERP platform including components such as user interface, middleware, infrastructure and providing support in data resource management, integrity and availability of the applications and databases, according to the desired KPIs to achieve business needs and innovations, by configuring, monitoring, troubleshooting, performance tuning, cloning, patching, and upgrading the applications and databases for effective business operations and administration.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, configures and installs databases according to the developer, user or vendor specifications
• Installs and Configures relevant Database network components to ensure database access as well as database consistency and integrity
• Setups up Operating Systems environments for database Installations
• Review all technical changes proposed for the production environment i.e. Application Patches, Upgrades, Releases, Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Extensions
• Defines and/or implements process improvement opportunities to strengthen quality, commonality and alignment across all the database platforms
• Conducts daily database administration including database performance monitoring, optimization, database incident resolution and database load testing
• Administers Database capacity utilization and requesting for system storage requirements.
Administers Database user accounts and assigns privileges according to user duties
Troubleshoots, resolves and/ or escalates database queries to vendors for technical support
• Reviews, develops, recommends, enforces, and adheres to database policies and standards, for example policies and procedures on database systems including ERP patching, ERP cloning, high availability, replication, archiving, access, and security
• Develops new standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all databases software installation and configuration including high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
• Creating backup and recovery strategies
• Database lock, space management, export and import of the database, performance tuning at DB and apps Level
• Installation and upgrades of Application and Database software
• Provides inputs into the disaster recovery plan.
• Evaluates critical database security issues (content, internal controls, access levels, etc.) and makes recommendations, such as disaster recovery plans and upgrades to new versions of the databases or successor releases.
• Proactively monitors, tests, and reports on database system integrity, security, and compliance measures.
• Researching and evaluating potential solutions by coordinating with functional analysts, developers, and other technology personnel within and outside the organization.
Qualification, Skills and Experience
• 6 O Levels Including Mathematics, Science and English.
• 2 A Level passes
• Degree in Computer Science/ Information Systems/ Electronic/Electrical Engineering/ Telecommunications or equivalent.
• OCP – Oracle Database Administration Certified Professional qualification a must
• Possession of other Database administration certifications such as MySQL and solid knowledge of AIX, Solaries, Linux and Windows environments is an added advantage.
• Relevant post graduate or vocational qualification will also be an added advantage.
• 2 to 4 years experience in a similar or related environment.
