Disaster Risk Reduction (DDR) Specialist: ActionAid Zimbabwe

The position holder will be responsible for designing, formulate and implementation of a comprehensive Disaster Risk Resilience strategy across activities and overseeing the implementation of that strategy for the project to maximize the contribution of the resilience component to the achievement of project goals. The position will cover risk analysis, prevention, preparedness, response, early recovery, capacity building and training. The position holder will facilitate the strengthening of community level DRR committees and supporting the overall implementation of Disaster Risk Reduction strategy and activities in partnership with various stakeholders. Facilitate the development of community based early warning system and risk communication systems and supporting DRR committees in building a stronger resilience to shocks through capacity strengthening in preparedness planning and mitigation measures. Collaborate with other Resilience Knowledge Hub members in developing innovative mechanisms to collect and share program learnings in various forums. Provide technical guidance to partners to ensure methodological soundness of resilience approaches for operational strategies, interventions, advocacy or any other needed context.

Requirements

Degree in Disaster Risk Management, Emergency response, Humanitarian assistance, Development studies, Agriculture, Rural Development and other related disciplines; Minimum 5 years, professional work experience in DRR and community resilience; Strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable engaging in dialogue with a range of actors including government department, local authorities, NGOs and other stakeholders; Excellent negotiation, presentation and communication skills; Willingness to travel to remote arears within the program areas; Self-motivated and ability to work with minimum supervision; Demonstrate ability to work under pressure, multi task and meet deadlines
