Disability Support Worker
Nzeve’s vision is to see the Deaf Community valued in an inclusive society. Our mission states that Nzeve is an organization of deaf and hearing people that promotes the rights of children and youth with disabilities to participate fully in society. Nzeve works to reduce discrimination by promoting sign language and deaf culture and building deaf community. Nzeve provides holistic services for deaf children and youth and their families in Manicaland.
Nzeve Centre in, Mutare was established in 2000 in response to the need for early identification and interventions for deaf children and their families. Nzeve has over 18 years of experience of working with parents of children with disabilities, testing children’s hearing, teaching signed communication and ECD activities.
Project and Position Overview
Family Ties Project
The Family Ties project will work with parents of young children with disabilities to equip them to support children’s special needs. Empowered mentors will reach out to parents of children with disabilities, to support them through their grief, denial and finally acceptance stages of coming to terms with their child’s special needs. Parents will be capacitated to seek out and access supportservices in health and education for their child with a disability.
Scope and Purpose of the Job
The Disability Support Worker is responsible for assisting in the implementation of training and support services to parents of children with disabilities. The Disability Support Worker coordinates parent meetings and conducts follow up visits to parents and parent groups; and provides guidance to access to appropriate services.
Responsibilities and Duties AND Key Result Indicators
Client Services
- Support clients to access services and participate in activities and tasks that promote the well being of children with disabilities
- Provide small group training and support
Operational
- Working with other project team members,assist in the developing, implementing and evaluating training and support programmes to attain identified goals
- Ensure programme quality is appropriately maintained, documented and reviewed.
- Prepare activity and period reports
Staff/ Team
- Liaise with the project team to ensure
- Professional relationship with clients maintained
- Positive client and colleague feedback
- Client files maintained, updated and reviewed
- Attendance and participation in assigned training and support group meetings
- Documentation of work is completed and maintained
- Key reports competed and submitted on time
- Consistent and positive communication with smooth running of the project
- Report regularly to the supervisor
- Actively contribute to team environment through open communication, participation in regular staff meetings, planning and review processes
- Provide support to o ther staff members as necessary Contribute to case reviews with the team
- Complete training/briefing on Child Protection Policy team
- Active participation in staff and team meetings

Minimum Qualifications
- Degree in social sciences/ teaching/health related sciences
- At least one years experience
- Sign language an advantage
