Key Responsibilities
- Spearheading the formulation, implementation and review of national mining development, research and beneficiation policies aligned with the Ministry’s Strategic Plan and national development priorities.
- Promoting mineral value addition and beneficiation initiatives across the sector.
- Providing technical guidance on sustainable exploitation of Zimbabwe’s mineral resources.
- Overseeing mineral research programmes and the adoption of emerging processing technologies.
- Developing frameworks to monitor mining industry performance and reporting.
- Leading strategies to transform small-scale and artisanal mining operations into larger, formal enterprises.
- Maintaining an updated national record of mineral deposits and reserves.
- Providing corporate oversight of mining parastatals under the Ministry.
- Superintending the departmental budget, procurement, and integrated mining databases.
- Managing, mentoring, and developing subordinate staff and technical directorates.
Requirements
- A Master’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Survey, Metallurgy or equivalent.
- Professional certification with a recognised body is mandatory; advanced professional qualifications are preferred.
- A minimum of ten (10) years relevant experience, including at least two (2) years at Director level or equivalent.
- Deep understanding of national development priorities and the mining sector’s role.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mining policies and regulations (national and international).
- Expertise in mineral processing techniques and emerging beneficiation technologies.
- Strategic competency in mineral value-chain optimisation.
- Familiarity with relevant standards for mineral research and mineral export.
- Capability in designing environmentally and socially sustainable mining programmes.
