GROUP BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER Reports To: Group Chief Executive Officer Harare Institute of Public Health (HIPH) invites applications from dynamic, innovative and commercially astute professionals for the position of Group Business Development Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Group’s business growth agenda by identifying, evaluating and implementing new commercial opportunities across existing and emerging markets. The role will focus on revenue diversification, strategic partnerships, market expansion and innovation to ensure the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of the Group. Working closely with Executive Management, the successful candidate will transform market opportunities into sustainable business ventures while strengthening the Group’s position as a leader in education, healthcare and related sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing the Group’s business development strategy in line with the organisation’s long-term strategic objectives.
  • Identifying, evaluating and commercialising new business opportunities, products and services that contribute to sustainable revenue growth.
  • Conducting market research and competitive analysis to identify emerging trends, customer needs and investment opportunities.
  • Developing innovative business models and strategic initiatives that enhance the Group’s competitive advantage.
  • Identifying, negotiating and managing strategic partnerships, joint ventures and collaborative agreements with local and international organisations.
  • Building and maintaining productive relationships with Government agencies, regulatory bodies, development partners, investors and other key stakeholders.
  • Leading negotiations for commercial agreements, Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and other strategic business arrangements.
  • Representing the Group at industry conferences, investment forums, business exhibitions and stakeholder engagements.
  • Preparing high-quality business cases, feasibility studies, investment proposals and strategic reports for Executive Management and the Board.
  • Driving innovation across business units by supporting the development of new products, services and business initiatives.
  • Monitoring business development projects to ensure agreed objectives, budgets, timelines and performance targets are achieved.
  • Providing leadership, coaching and performance management to the Business Development team while fostering a culture of innovation, accountability and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • A Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Business Studies, Project Management, Information Systems, Computer Science or another relevant commercial or technical discipline from a recognised institution.
  • A Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science in Finance or Strategy, or a relevant postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
  • Professional certification in Project Management (PMP, PRINCE2) or Corporate Finance will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ senior management experience in business development, corporate strategy, commercial management or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success in identifying and commercialising new business opportunities.
  • Proven experience in establishing strategic partnerships, negotiating commercial agreements and managing high-value stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience within the education, healthcare, pharmaceutical or corporate sectors will be an added advantage.
  • A successful track record of leading business growth initiatives from concept through implementation.
  • Strong strategic thinking and commercial acumen.
