We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic Graduate Trainee Food Loss Initiative to support the implementation of a Food Loss Initiative through a pilot study using innovative insect technology to up-scale food waste from the hospitality sectors and households in Victoria Falls.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct a baseline survey on the quantities and nature of food waste generated by households and the hotel industry in Victoria Falls.
• Conduct solid waste mapping (Quantify and qualify solid waste) within the Victoria Falls Municipality.
• Assess and quantify Greenhouse gases (GHG) and related matrices aimed at reduction in GHG emissions from organic waste and reduction in energy use in BSFL feed mix production
• Supervise the conversion of organic waste into forms that are easily biodegradable using the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) Technology.
• Collect and analyse data on BSF production including yield, nutritional quality, feed conversion matrices, and quality of frass (organic manure).
• Supervise collection of data on experimental evaluation of nutrient composition of BSF-based poultry feed and frass.
• Provide weekly, monthly, and quarterly narrative and technical reports as guided by specific standard operating procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

• A Masters Degree in Environmental Sciences or Environmental Engineering.
• A proven record of implementation of a research project in the area of waste management
• Experience in fieldwork, data collection and analysis
• Experience in the measurement of climate and carbon footprint matrices

Required Skills and Competencies
• Team player with the ability to work under pressure;
• Self driven motivated to work in the valorization of food waste to promote a circular economy and green tourism starter;
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships at all levels, within WWF Zimbabwe and, as required, with external stakeholders;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; and
• Adherence to WWF’s values, which are: Courage, Respect, Integrity and Collaboration
