The Maranatha Christian University (MCU) wishes to engage the services of top and highly motivated officials of the University to lay the foundations of a young Christian University that has serious ambitions to offer world-class research, teaching and learning to local and international students. Whilst the University is to be eventually offer residential courses, it intends in the short-to-medium blended with online instruction in a distance mode. The initial intent is to offer online instruction in a selected range of Programmes which have been approved by ZIMCHE. The ideal candidates therefore must:
- Be practicing, God-fearing Christians with a genuine commitment to the vision and mission of the MCU, not just as an academic exercise, but as a strong vocation and a calling
- Be highly motivated professionals
- Share an outstanding passion to realise the University’s vision and mission in a manner that will embolden them to dare to make a difference both for themselves and the institution in a global academic environment
- Be accountable and responsible in managing all staff, students, the University’s resources
- Have an ability to deliver results in a timely manner and put service to the University above personal interest
- Have a demonstrated ability to lead effectively (especially in a pioneering start-up environment)

THE UNIVERSITY
The vision of the University is to be a world class University renowned for its advancement of research and entrepreneurial education for personal development and socioeconomic transformation. The mission of the University is to promote world-class academic research, teaching and learning that would support students in achieving societal, national and global impact in the Fourth Industrial Revolution through action to target through problem-solving and solution-providing interventions.
To fulfill its vision and mission, the MCU wishes to fill the following key management positions:
Vice Chancellor
All the posts shall be offered through performance-based contracts initially of five years duration but subject to possible renewal at the discretion of the University’s Board of Governors (equivalent to Council).
Applicants are therefore invited from suitably qualified and motivated candidates to fill these vacancies.
All the positions report to the University’s Board of Governors through the Vice Chancellor. The Vice Chancellor himself/herself shall report directly to the University’s Board of Governors.
Remuneration
A commensurate attractive package and other benefits in accordance with the University Terms and Conditions of Service.
Roles of the Vice Chancellor
- Oversee the academic, administrative and financial affairs of the University.
- In the absence of the Chancellor, preside over the ceremonial assemblies of the University and confer degrees and other academic titles and distinction of the University
- Duties and Responsibilities of the MCU Vice Chancellor
- The Vice Chancellor shall:-
- Provide academic, administrative and financial leadership to the University and as such shall be responsible to the University’s Board of Governors for the attainment and promoting good governance, vision of the University.
- Oversee the academic, administrative and financial affairs of the University.
- Ensure the implementation and monitoring of the University’s strategic plan.
- Provide leadership in mobilising resources necessary for the implementation of the University policies, plans and programmes.
- Chair meetings of the University Senate.
- Take a lead advocacy for the University and its strategic interests through active engagement with government, the community, private sector and international partners.
- Ensure optimal utilisation of available resources, good governance, transparency and accountability.
- Monitor the performance and oversee the appraisal of academic staff and senior managers of the University so that the mission and vision of the University are actively pursued and achieved.
- Promote best practice in research and teaching and the University’s aspiration to become a world-class institution offering cutting-edge programmes in both teaching and learning support functions.
- Have the capacity to set up Student Admissions Records and Registration, Instruction and Tuition Timetables, Examinations and Assessment, and Graduation Ceremonies.
- Have a proven track record in managing student scholarships and other awards, and otherwise ensuring that student resources that may be available to students are well managed.
- Have a proven experience in performance management in a reputable public or private institution, regional and/or international work environment in Higher Education.
- Have a thorough knowledge of the structural, legislative, and regulatory framework for management of Higher Education in Zimbabwe.
- Have a broad working knowledge of public financial management and budgeting.
- Be an excellent communicator with good negotiation skills and the ability to engage with persons at all levels of society.
- Must have a sound understanding of the planning and budgeting processes of the University.
- Have a strong entrepreneurial mindset.
- Have a good strategy for partnering Industry and other organizations.
- Be a man/woman of honesty and integrity.
- Have a proven/demonstrated high level of experience in networking, proposal mobilisation and presentation of grant proposals.
- Have at least 5 years proven broad experience in monitoring and evaluation of Development partners.
- Have a proven experience in performance management in a reputable public or private institution, regional and/or international work environment in Higher Education.
- Have a thorough knowledge of the structural, legislative, and regulatory framework for management of Higher Education in Zimbabwe.
- Have a broad working knowledge of public financial management and budgeting.
- Be an excellent communicator with good negotiation skills and the ability to engage with persons at all levels of society.
Eligibility Criteria
The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:
- An earned PhD / academic doctorate from a recognised academic institution.
- Have been a Full Professor for not less than 5 years.
- Must have at least ten years’ teaching and research experience at University level, five of which must have been at the level of University Dean of School or Director of Institute or higher.
- Must have a proven track record of academic leadership, research, and resource mobilisation.
- Must have a sound understanding of the planning and budgeting processes of the University.
- Must have a strong entrepreneurial mindset.
- Must have a good strategy for partnering Industry and other organisations.
- Must be a man/woman of honesty and integrity.
- Must have a proven/demonstrated high level of experience in networking, proposal mobilisation and presentation of grant proposals.
