Job Title: VICE CHANCELLOR
Role Purpose:
The Vice Chancellor is the Chief Executive Officer of Chinhoyi University of Technology. He/She reports to the Chancellor through the University Council and the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation Science and Technology Development. The Vice Chancellor’s mandate is to provide institutional leadership and oversights. He/She is the chief advocate empowered to develop and drive the vision, mission and strategy of the University, and at the same time as the principal ambassador of the Institution. The position calls for a versatile and well-respected individual with a distinguished academic and professional record of achievement in higher and tertiary education with intellectual and administrative capabilities to foster the development and growth of a young university of technology and entrepreneurship. The Vice Chancellor is the chief academic, administrative and financial officer of the University.
Key Responsibilities
- 2.1 Provide visionary and strategic [leadership] to the University in all areas of academic endeavours including teaching, research and the development of practical competence through innovation to support industrialisation leading to the commercialisation of new process technologies, product manufacturing and service delivery.
- 2.2 Administer and serve the University to efficiency and good governance level in the conduct of academic and any related business of the institution.
- 2.3 Formulate and implement a 21st Century education system in line with the National Development Strategies as outline in the University’s Strategic Plan and the broader context of the national industrialisation and modernisation agenda a provided for in Zimbabwe’s Education 5.0 plan of action.
- 2.4 Initiate or propose the development and implementation of education policies and procedures that will be used to guide all learning processes including monitoring and evaluation of research and development and innovations designed to improve efficiency of the University’s academic and administration programmes.
- 2.5 Provide leadership in the development, and institute resource mobilisation endowment and donation programmes to improve ranking and associated research and innovation outputs.
- 2.6 Develop strategic linkages with both local and international organisations: both private and public.
- 2.7 Create strategic and harmonious working relationships between and among Institutions of learning, staff, and students including public and private organisations.
- 2.8 Create, attract and nurture the best high-end skilled human capital for the University to enable the Institution to meet its teaching, research and innovation needs, and provide an environment to foster the creation of technology driven start-ups, and incubation hubs for future industries that will generate income for the University and employment for its graduates.
- 2.9 Develop and maintain positive and progressive working relationships between and among a wide range of internal and external stakeholders that include the University Council, Senate and other educational institutions, officially and at all levels of government within and outside Zimbabwe.
- 2.10 Ensure that the University has state- of the art administration, learning, laboratory, cultural, recreation and sporting facilities.
- 2.11 Ensure that the University is able to attract a diversified, gender – sensitive and mixed international student body and faculty.
Requirements
- 1.1 Be a visionary and strategic leader with skills and competencies to drive the University’s vision, mission and strategic objectives to champion Education 5.0 within the framework of national development strategies that have been cast in the broader context of a heritage driven education system.
- 1.2 Be in possession of an earned Doctor of Philosophy degree from a reputable and recognized University and be a Professor.
- 1.3 Have minimum of 10 years working experience at a senior administrative level at Higher Education Institutions or related Research Institutions.
- 1.4 Be an accomplished academic with a proven research and innovation track record for re-engineering and improving process and production technologies driven by innovative heritage based learning and teaching in a research environment to produce high-end skills.
- 1.5 Be committed to, and in possession of substantial experience in networking with industry particularly in fund raising and resource mobilization for infrastructural development of the University to make it possible to deliver knowledgeable and competent human capital nationally, regionally and internationally.
- 1.6 Have proven intellectual capacity to deliver Education 5.0 based on Zimbabwe’s culture and heritage to underpin the role of higher and tertiary education in science and technology that drive a knowledge-based modern economy.
- 1.7 Have demonstrable capacity to drive the University’s research, innovation and entrepreneurial output towards the establishment of an enabling research and innovation environment, and commercialization aptitude to promote the use of new processing technologies in the manufacture of new products and the provision of new services.
- 1.8 Have knowledge and adequate understanding of structural, legislative and regulatory frameworks for the management of higher education in promoting the use science and technology in nation building.
- 1.9 Have proven capacity and knowledge to manage public finances in the education and strategic management of human capital for both the public and private sectors.
