A valid driver's licence is often preferred because the role may involve moving vehicles or assisting with tyre checks.
What are the common day-to-day responsibilities of a tyre countersales person?
You will typically greet customers, identify their tyre needs, recommend suitable products, prepare quotations, and process cash or credit sales at the counter. You may also check tyre sizes, arrange fitment with workshop staff, and follow up on stock availability or customer orders.
What do Zimbabwean employers expect in terms of work culture and attitude for this role?
Employers value punctuality, neat appearance, honesty when handling cash, and a respectful but persuasive way of dealing with customers. Because the tyre trade is competitive, you are expected to be proactive in upselling related products such as batteries, shocks, or wheel alignment services.
What career progression can I realistically expect from a tyre countersales position?
With strong sales performance and product knowledge, you can progress to senior salesperson, branch supervisor, or assistant branch manager. Some people also move into tyre fitting supervision, fleet account management, or purchasing and stock control roles within the same company.
What typical benefits should I ask about when applying for this role in Zimbabwe?
Common benefits to ask about include annual leave days, sick leave, medical aid contributions, pension or NSSA registration, and sometimes a staff uniform or safety shoes. Some employers also offer sales commission or performance bonuses, but this varies by company.
How should I apply for a tyre countersales job and what do employers look for in an application?
You should submit a short, clear CV with a cover letter that highlights your sales experience, product knowledge, and ability to work with cash and customers. Employers look for evidence of previous retail or counter sales experience, good communication skills, and traceable references from past employers.
