• Plan, organize, direct and control all treasury unit activities and resources in order to meet the unit’s objectives;
• Formulating and implementing investment strategies and monitoring the strategies put in place on a daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly basis with a view of assessing progress towards achieving the set targets;
• Maximizing return on shareholders and capital employed by pursuing prudent, calculated and risk weighted strategies
• Establish policies, procedures and controls for treasury unit, which meet minimum requirements of the financial institution and regulatory authorities
• Identify and manage risks in treasury unit, including operational, liquidity, legal, counterparty, and settlement risks; analysing the Company’s cash flow reports and deal maturities profile in managing liquidity risk; management of the financial institution’s counterparty risk to reduce financial losses emanating from credit risk, market risk and reducing reputation risk and solvency risks emanating from liquidity risk, and management of interest rate exposure;
• Develop risk management and prevention strategies to mitigate risk of financial loss; put in place adequate policies and controls to avoid losses and frauds. Ensure that all treasury staff members are trained and allocated correct levels of user profiles and passwords and ensure that there is full compliance with all policies and controls
• Ensuring that the treasury unit is adequately manned by competent staff at all times; ensuring that there is proper segregation of front office and back office functions and ensure that the segregation of functions is strictly enforced at all times
• Responsible for business development through developing innovative products that meet clients’ needs and wants and typical activities like deepening of existing relationships by maintaining constant contact with clients to promote and market the company’s products, organizing promotional, entertainment and marketing events such as cocktails, luncheons and Christmas parties
• Managing the existing and future portfolio of customers for profitable growth by deepening and widening the customer relationship through marketing strategies that involve constant customer contact and cross selling programmes
• Assess, analyse, define, recommend, implement and follow up market intelligence, and marketing plans in order to meet the treasury unit’s objectives
• Work closely with the marketing and other department teams to design marketing and sales programmes to acquire new customers in the chosen market segment; developing and maintaining good relationships with other units
• Reporting the financial institution’s liquidity situation to ALCO, EXCO through preparation of various performance reports such as summary of resources; concentration of deposits and Gap Analysis on a weekly; monthly and quarterly basis
• Determining and recommending appropriate and optimum asset allocation thresholds on the Company’s balance sheet at different times premised on market conditions
• Ensuring that all deals are within limits set and approved by ALCO at all times, and that no off market rates are quoted
• Establishing accounting policies for treasury products and ensuring that correct accounting and processing of all deals is done so that the correct records are maintained
• Preparing treasury unit budgets and ensuring that the set targets or budgets are achieved
• Performing other duties in line with scope of work and as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, Banking, Investments, Economics or equivalent
• IOBZ Diploma
• 4 Years’ Experience in a Treasury environment
