A human rights organisation is seeking the services of a highly motivated Transitional Justice Advocacy Specialist to join a small team of high impact transitional justice officers for its Harare office. The ideal candidate is a Specialist who understands the Zimbabwean transitional justice context and is eager to make an impact on the transitional justice policy and practice in Zimbabwe. Multi-talented, highly collaborative, an excellent writer and skilled communicator who must excel at targeted transitional justice work and advocacy activities. The Specialist must excel at convening diverse groups of stakeholders to move strategy from vision to implementation and impact. The Specialist must believe in all human rights for all people, in justice and accountability for all and willing to go an extra mile to ensure that the goals of the programme are achieved.
Position summary
Under the supervision of the Team Leader: Transitional Justice, the Specialist conducts various types of strategic and impact research, including desk and field research. The Specialist will facilitate various multi-level and multi-stakeholder training and advocacy meetings, locally and internationally. S/he will carry out intensive transitional justice policy research and analysis and will be expected to make presentations before various audiences. The Specialist will be expected to design and implement high impact transitional justice projects, participate in all necessary capacity enhancement programmes for stakeholders and contribute to fund-raising efforts to move the programme forward
Duties and responsibilities
The incumbent will contribute to strengthening and supporting advocacy to and with the government, civil society, development partners, the international community, media, academia and citizens. The Specialist will be responsible for the following duties: design and implement high impact transitional justice projects; produce thoroughly researched analytical papers on transitional justice, human rights and conflict transformation; carry out intensive and extensive transitional justice policy analysis; design appropriate interventions and recommendations for the transitional justice process in Zimbabwe; convene and facilitate regular stakeholder meetings which include training and dialogue session on key transitional justice issues in Zimbabwe; participate in domestic, regional and international transitional justice advocacy programmes; participate in various activities on behalf of the organisation; compile and dispatch various transitional justice reports within agreed timeframes; keep a tag on and design appropriate responses to critical transitional justice developments in the country; and attend to any other duties incidental to the attainment of the project goals. To be considered for this role you must be passionate about the promotion and protection of human rights in general and transitional justice specifically; have a strong record of handling and delivering effectively in a similar capacity; have strong interpersonal skills and experience of working with a range of stakeholders from the transitional justice community, partners and community-based groups; have the gravitas and credibility to engage with target communities and audiences; and ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision
Qualifications and experience
The candidate must have the following experience and qualifications: must possess a law / or social sciences degree from a reputable institution; at least five (5) years of working experience in the human rights sector; possess skills in transitional justice research and policy analysis; speak and write fluently in English; experience with funding partners and international organisations would be an added advantage; and the ability to speak at least one Zimbabwean vernacular language is an added advantage
