Bikita Rural District Council invites applications from suitably qualified and physically fit young men and women to undergo training as TRAINEE FIRE FIGHTERS in the Engineering Department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to fire, rescue and emergency calls
  • Operate and maintain firefighting equipment
  • Rescue individuals and animals from life threatening situations
  • Provide emergency first aid to victims before ambulance service arrive
  • Participate in fire prevention and inspection programs within the community
  • Enforcement of all Council By laws which are fire related at public places, buildings and the environment
  • Carry out routine, servicing and cleaning of firefighting tools and fire truck
  • Assist in investigating the cause of fires under the direction of the Senior fire officers
  • Participate in regular drills, physical fitness training and continuous learning
  • Educate the public in fire safety and emergency preparedness
  • Maintain accurate reports and complete all required documentation after responses
  • To perform any other duties related to Council assigned by the Supervisor

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 “O” Levels including English Language, Mathematics and a Science Subject. Accounts subject is an added advantage
  • Be between 18 and 24 years old
  • Be physically fit and able to take part in strenuous fire brigade drills
  • Be able to work at heights and in enclosed spaces
  • Must have passed medical examination
  • Must not have a criminal record
  • Ability to work in a team and problem solving skills
  • The selection will also include a 10km road-run competition
