OVERALL JOB PURPOSE
The Tourism Officer will form part of the Tourism Team in Gonarezhou National Park and will play a critical role in supporting the overall tourism business in the Park. Under the guidance of the Business Development Manager, the Tourism Officer will play a key role in the day-to-day tourism operations in the Park. The ideal candidate will be highly dynamic and adaptable, a systems thinker and a natural problem solver that is customer focused and has experience in general tourism operations, reservations, guest relations and tourism marketing.
DUTIES AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY ARE LIKELY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING AS A MINIMUM
- Front Office Operations:
- Reservations – Support of reservations staff & oversight of SOP’s in the reservation office;
- Reception – Ensure the customer experience at reception offices is appropriate & of a high standard;
- Guest & Trade Relations – Interaction with guests and trade partners to Gonarezhou, including handling complex queries, complaints, payment issues & trade relations;
- Financial Management-Ensure all necessary billing, invoicing, statutory requirements are current & complete;
- Human Resources – Mentor front office & other staff as necessary, Coordinate time-off/leave schedules for all front office & other staff as required;
- Logistics – Where necessary support & coordinate guest or tourism staff logistics;
- Camp Oversight – Perform an oversight role of the Gulugi Research/Contractors Camp;
- Planning/Management- support forward planning for the tourism business, & update & maintain past statistics, records & other data;
- Reporting – Complete required reports & participate in relevant meetings as required.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL
- Relevant degree/tertiary qualification in tourism/business management or related field;
- At least 5 years’ experience in Tourism, a minimum of 2 years in a Management Position;
- Tourism marketing or guest relations experience;
- Tourism operations experience an added advantage;
- Organised with the ability to prioritise multiple competing demands;
- Natural problem solver;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Approachable, well presented and honest;
- Full and clean class 4 driver’s license;
- Fluency in English essential, fluency in local languages will be an added advantage;
Where possible, preference will be given to suitable candidates living around Gonarezhou National Park.
