General Position Summary

 

 

• Lead the overall programmatic strategy, staff supervision, and ensure compliance with Mercy Corps and donor policies.

• Serve as primary representative to donors, government, partners, and stakeholders.

• Oversee coordination and implementation of Urban Resilience, ensuring high-quality programming and policy influence.

• Provide leadership, management, and strategic vision to ensure targets, deliverables, and budgets are met1.

Essential Job Responsibilities

 

 

Strategy & Vision

 

 

• Develop a program-wide urban resilience-building framework.

• Encourage innovative actions and alternative viewpoints.

• Set direction by prioritizing actions and resources to achieve objectives.

 

 

Program Management & Leadership

 

 

• Oversee program start-up, management, and administration across field locations.

• Supervise project staff and ensure accountability.

• Develop and implement detailed work plans.

• Ensure effective targeting of participants.

• Integrate community approaches, gender sensitivity, and capacity building.

• Provide oversight to consortium partners.

• Ensure program agility and responsiveness to changing contexts.

• Document and disseminate best practices.

• Produce written reports on activities and impacts.

• Oversee M&E systems and ensure strong stakeholder management.

• Conduct frequent field visits to project sites.

 

 

Team Management

• Work with security focal points to ensure team safety.

• Design activities with security analysis in mind.

Reporting Structure

 

 

• Reports Directly To: Country Director

• Works Directly With: Mercy Corps Zimbabwe Country Office, Urban Resilience consortia leads, Regional Resilience Senior Director, Global Technical Resource & Quality team, and partner organizations1.

Knowledge and Experience

 

 

• Master’s degree or higher in management, agriculture, economics, business administration, or related fields.

• At least 8 years of project management experience in comparable roles.

• Significant experience in resilience programming, private sector engagement, urban agriculture, and/or inclusive employment, preferably in urban contexts.

• Experience in dynamic contexts, ideally in Sub-Saharan Africa.

• Strong managerial, analytical, strategic planning, and reporting skills.

• Proven ability to mentor, anticipate issues, and find solutions.

• Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Demonstrated capacity to manage complex teams and deliver quality results on time.

• Excellent written and verbal English skills
